The team of South African Kurash athletes brought back 3 bronze medals after competing in the highest ranks of the sport.
Two international kurash tournaments took place in December 2024, of which 7 South African kurash athletes competed in:
- World Championships (Cadets, Juniors and Veterans) held in Ulaanbaatar – Mongolia.
- World Series Pro (Senior Prize Tournament) held in Tashkent – Uzbekistan.
This year, world championships was opened up to Junior & Veteran age categories, whereby South Africa’s very own under 83kg athlete Henri Swanepoel (17) fought against the highest ranked junior athletes in the world, and secured a bronze medal. Swanepoel fought his way through the ranks earlier in 2024 when he competed in the South African Kurash Championships in Johannesburg, and later on in the continental African Championships held in Eswatini in August.

In addition to World Championships, South Africa took 2 bronze medals at the World-Series-Pro (WSP) prize tournament, which took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan shortly after World Championships concluded.
The WSP event is an annual prize tournament wherein senior competitors from around the world compete for the prize of the president of Uzbekistan.
South Africa’s Simon Webber and Danique Scheepers each won bronze medals in their respective weight categories. Both of whom fought their way through African Championships in Eswatini in August 2024.

Kurash South Africa wishes to congratulate these competitors on their accomplishments.
