Jeffrey’s Bay, renowned for its stunning coastal vistas and world-class surfing, witnessed a unique spectacle this weekend as it played host to the inaugural Beach Kurash Wrestling Tournament. Competitors from across the region gathered to showcase their skills in this exhilarating form of traditional wrestling. The event, organized by Kurash South Africa, aimed to combine the natural beauty of Jeffrey’s Bay with the ancient art of Kurash, a martial art originating from Central Asia.

Wrestlers clad in red belts grappled and maneuvered with skill, aiming to outwit their opponents with swift throws. Spectators lined the beach, cheering on their favourite competitors. Among the contenders were seasoned Kurash fighters as well as newcomers eager to test their mettle in this event.
With the success of the inaugural Beach Kurash Wrestling Tournament, hopes are high for future editions, athletes now look onward to the upcoming South African Championships tournament to be held on 18 May in Johannesburg.
